Some say that it takes a special kind of person to play goalie in lacrosse. It is not necessarily normal to willingly let others hurl lacrosse balls.
Going into this season, the boys lacrosse team had some uncertainty about who was going to play goalie. Assistant Coach Nathan Barrett felt that uncertainty early on, but later it was a clear choice.
“Matt Hale stepped up. Cameron Aughie is a freshman. We have a sophomore (Nick Serrano) but he’s out for the whole season with an injury,” Coach Barrett said. “Matt has just really showed up this year.’’
There might have been some difficulty looking for a new goalie as most are not very excited to do the job. “Lacrosse goalies have to be a little odd because you’re getting lacrosse balls thrown at you at 80 miles per hour,” joked Barrett.
Senior Matt Hale is definitely one of the more original guys on the team. With him being extremely soft spoken, it is hard to tell exactly what he is thinking about.
“I’m a little crazy,” said Hale. As other players heard him say this they all seemed to nod in agreement.
He will not only be help to the team between the pipes, but he will also be able to help his teammates with their math skills. Hale thinks that one of his best skills are his ability to do math. Making sure everyone stays eligible should not be a problem but everyone on the team knows that if they need help they can go to their senior goalie.
